A native of Greenpoint, Joanna Zablocki, the owner of Grapepoint Wines, doesn’t strike you as your typical wine aficionado. A first generation Polish-American with a BS in Business Management and Economics from the Smeal Business School at Penn State, she was on her way down a very different career path. But, then something happened in the summer of 2011 while traveling in Spain and Portugal— her passion for wine asserted itself in a very “New York” kind of way, and she hasn’t looked back since.
After receiving her intermediate certification from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust she opened Grapepoint Wines with the idea of bringing rare finds and real “gems”—especially, wines that are a great price-to-quality ratio—to her own backyard of Greenpoint. That’s one reason you can always find a large selection, hand-picked by Joanna herself, on Grapepoint’s two large ’$15 and under’ tables.
Grapepoint is Joanna’s leap of faith that her passion is contagious. Perhaps, that’s because she believes that wine is a wonderful adventure of discovering our own unique palate as we sip together, share together, compare notes together and, most importantly, celebrate—all with the nectar of the grape—together.
We’re always happy to help our customers with personalized recommendations for any occasion, or no occasion at all; so please don’t be shy about asking.
